Stand-Ups
A stand-up meeting is a short, frequent meeting where participants describe work statuses, raise issues, and synchronize efforts. It is often done while standing to shorten the meeting length.
What is a Stand-Up Meeting?
- Stand-up Meetings
Atlassian provides an intro on the classic stand-up format: literally "stand up" out of your desk and then have each team member shares progress on what they're working on.
- How to Run the Perfect Standup
Leith runs through multiple stand-up formats at Coursera: asynchronous, high-energy stand-ups, and battle plan stand-ups.
Consider Different Meeting Formats Instead
- Status Meetings Are the Scourge
Jason explains how the status update portion of a stand-up meeting is a waste of time. Written information is more powerful (team members can access it if / when they need it).
- Why “Standups” are Useless and How to Run Great Product Team Meetings
Andy adds to the position that status updates are not a productive use of time, and suggests an alternative: organizing a product development meeting agenda around decisions that need to be made in order to unblock various team members.
